Founder, and Chief Innovation Officer


Biography:

C. Steven McDaniel received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Texas in 1974, a Master of Science in Genetics from Texas A & M University in 1976, his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Texas A & M University in 1985, after which he finalized his technical training as a post-doctoral fellow at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. McDaniel's areas of technical expertise includes organic chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology, with an emphasis on industrial sciences within these fields.

Dr. McDaniel founded Reactive Surfaces in 2002 and currently serves as that company’s Managing Member and Chief Innovation Officer.  While at Texas A&M University, Dr. McDaniel was the first to clone and sequence the opd gene that has become the foundation for RSL's technology.  Mr. McDaniel is a featured speaker on technical topics ranging from functional coatings to astrobiology and the use of functional coatings in space.


In 1991, he obtained his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Houston. He is of counsel to McDaniel & Associates, P.C., a law firm he established in 1999, whose attorneys specialize in technology law and intellectual property protection.  Dr. McDaniel is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Southern, Western, Eastern and Northern Federal District Courts of Texas and the Texas State Courts.  Dr. McDaniel provided expert testimony before the Texas legislature related to the legislative overruling and the establishment of a "discovery rule" in Texas trade secret jurisprudence.  He is a member of the Texas Bar Association.
